Are You Missing A Great Promotional Opportunity At Outdoor Events?

Although the weather forecasters don’t seem to be able to deliver much good news for many of us at the moment, summer is here.  All across New Zealand people are doing their best to get outdoors and enjoy it.  From concerts to festivals and sporting events, people are taking advantage of the warm weather. This presents an excellent opportunity for businesses and organisations to maximise their reach and interact with their customers. In this article we will look at various ways in which you can use outdoor events to interact with your market.

The Possibilites Are Endless

Outdoor events present a fantastic opportunity to get in front of your audience.  The following are just a few of the opportunities available: festivals,  parades, charity walks/runs, sporting events, fairs, car and air shows, farmers’ markets, concerts, holiday events …. the list goes on.  The point is that there are endless opportunities out there for you.  With a little research, you will find at least one event that will provide a valuable avenue for you to promote your organisation.

There are of course many different ways to get your name out there. At charity or fundraising events you could become an official sponsor and get your logo on all of the event merchandise and marketing materials. You could reserve a stand and have a team there to talk with customers and hand out promotional products.  Depending on the type of event, you could also have a team of your people work the crowd handing out promotional gifts.  Be creative and don’t be afraid to utilise different engagement tactics to maximise the opportunity you have.

Get Out And Engage

Charity runs or walks are a great way to show that your business supports the local community. Because people are generally not in a hurry, outdoor events present an ideal opportunity to interact with existing and potential customers. If you can get their attention and engage them easily, then you have a better chance to educate them about your organisation.  An added benefit is that it allows the customer to see the human side of your organisation, and put a smiling face to a logo or name.

Take the opportunity to get out and engage your customers.  Talk to them, hand out giveaways, develop new relationships and have some fun!  If appropriate try to get some contact information from them.  Once the event is over you can continue to grow the relationship.

Consider The Time, Theme And Setting

Naturally you want your time at the event to be a success.  Be absolutely sure to avoid the one-size-fits-all approach to choosing promotional products for the event. For example an afternoon event in January or February would be a great time to hand out can coolers, sun block or caps. An evening concert might go better with glow-sticks or cushions.   Or at sporting events thunder sticks and drink bottles would likely be very popular with the crowd. The key is to match your promotion to the event.

Outdoor events provide your organisation with a great way of meeting new customers and developing lasting relationships.
